Aria’s Sourdough Journey

This bread journey is a love story whose origins can be traced back to my early childhood memories of standing in line at bakeries in Rasht and Tehran with my mother and grandmother, waiting for fresh Sangak and Barbari. Watching those bakers masterfully turn such a humble product into works of art while being engulfed in the intoxicating aromas of freshly baked bread ingrained a deeply rooted love and appreciation for the craft.

This dormant passion for bread manifested itself again years later, when I was introduced to the art of sourdough baking upon discovering the wonderful creations of Zingerman’s Deli in Ann Arbor. Inspired by what I had experienced, I set out to learn everything there was to learn about sourdough. Shortly thereafter, I made my starter in June of 2017 in New Jersey, and have been baking with it ever since.
